Yellow Belt certification requirements

Base requirements

  1. Contact your agency's continuous improvement contact​ and let them know you're starting the Yellow Belt training. 

  2. Complete the Yellow Belt modules in ​Cornerstone (LEADER).

  3. Identify a list of process problems to focus on in your project. Review Yellow Belt Module 2: Identifying Problems again if needed.

  4. Attend the instructor-led activity training.

  5. Complete a continuous improvement project and submit a project report​. Two team leads can be certified per project. 

Project certification requirements

  • Use the screening questions when selecting a project

  • Create a project charter​

  • Map the current state process

  • Collect ‘before’ and ‘after’ data

  • Perform root cause analysis

  • Map the future state process

  • Implement your solution

  • Submit a project report including metrics and results in the employee project portal​

  • Complete the project within 18 months 


Additional DOT requirements
  • Notify your DOT continuous improvement contact, Dan Lamm (daniel.lamm@dot.wi.gov), that you are beginning your project

  • Align your baseline data with one of the MAPSS core goals (Mobility, Accountability, Preservation, Safety, and Service)

  • Create a 5x5 (5 slides in 5 minutes) presentation and present to DOT leadership
